Weightlifting

Weightlifting was pioneered by Eugene Sandow, Arthur Saxon, and Lousis Apollon. They originally performed in circuses and, theatres as a show. Later in 1891 weightlifting involved into a competition. Weightlifting was then incorporated into the Olympics for the first time in London in 1896. In continued for the next two Olympics and, then was suspended until 1920. Weightlifting then began to be governed by the International Weightlifting Federation, Leading to a more organized standard for competition. The new Federation led to lifts such as clean and jerk and, clean and press to be incorporated into the sport. Weightlifting began to branch off into different types of competitions including the CrossFit games and, the World’s Strongest Man.

Olympics

Olympic Weightlifting champions-Hali Mutlu of Turkey, Pyrros Dimas of Greece and, Kakhi Kakhiasvilis of Greece have all tailied three gold medals. The woman Chen Yanqing of China has tailed the most for a woman of two gold medals.

World’s Strongest Man

World’s Strongest Man competition began in 1977 by David Webster. In its beginning years it hosted majority American Football players as competitors. In 1983 it left America for the first time going to ChristChurch, New Zealand. The competition is now on its 44th year and, it considered to be one of the biggest lifting events in the world. Brian Shaw is the most recognized in this field holding numerous records such has most top 5 placing, most final appearances, most consecutive finals, and most third place finishes.

The Crossfit Games

CrossFit Games started in 2007. The creator of the games was Dave Castro who held the first games on his own small ranch in California. In the beginning of the games anyone who showed up to the games could compete. In 2009 the games then introduced regionals to get only the best of the best to compete in the games. By 2010 the games had 17 regional competitions throughout the United States in two different divisions. One for men and one for woman. The mens category has been dominated by Rich Froning and Matthew Hughes. With Froning winning 4 of the competitions and Hughes winning 5 since 2007. The womans side was fairly even until the last four years in which Tia-Claire Toomy has won four in row giving her the most championships.
