Sundive - It's the name given to me by my peers after using a unique strategy to save my ass during my old Starfleet Command days.
The story goes; I was in a F-NCC and I was against a R-SPZ. The battle was a long one, each side had taken some serious damage. I was still able to run at a speed of 29 and charge a photon and my remaining phasers. The SPZ was able to run at 27 and charge 2 F-Torps as well as his phasers.
I was keeping my phasers on point defense. Anything to take a few points out of the torpeedo's impact. I knew I couldn't out run him for much longer. Once the torpeedos were done charging he would be able to transfer that power to his engines and over take me. Then he'd launch his torpedos and cripple my engines. That's when the idea hit me.
The sector we were in was a planetary system and we were fighting pretty close to the star. The radiation coming off the star effects everything that degrades. Ships, fighters, shields, shuttles, drones, probes and torpedos. So I took my ship in to the star's corona. I put what I could in to my forward shields to keep my hull from getting hit.
My opponent took the bait. He followed me in. It was a bigger problem for him than it was for me. The whole match he was focusing on my rear shields while I was focusing on his front shields. So as he got closer to the sun, the more hull damage he took. He fired his torpedos. My phasers were firing and the radiation was taking it's toll. When the torpedos finally hit my shields, they were degraded so badly it had a very small impact. That's when I did a 180 degree emergency turn and launched an alpha strike on his now exposed hull.
The attack crippled his ship and I flew out of the radiation. When I reached the minimum safe distance from the star, it was too late for my opponent. The radiation weakened his ship and breached his warp core's containment field. It was a beautiful way to end such a hard fought battle.
After that match, my opponent started calling me Sundive. Before long, everyone I played with started referring to me as Sundive. Since then, I've kept the name and use it as my handle.
