Raul G Cuero (born in Buenaventura, Colombia) is a Colombian professor of microbiology , an inventor and writer of self motivation books, with particular expertise in biogenesis. In 2006 Dr. Cuero led Latin America team in the synthetic biology IGEM competition[2], at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA.[3]
Biography
editDuring the 1950s more than 30% of the children in his home town of Buenaventura died from diseases such as parasites, malaria, tuberculosis and viral diseases before reaching the age of ten. This served as inspiration for his career. After studying biology on a scholarship awarded for academic merit at the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia, he was offered a further academic scholarship to continue his education in the United States in Heidelberg College and plant pathology in the Ohio State University. He was later awarded another scholarship to earn his Ph.D in microbiology in the University of Strathclyde.[4] In recent year .Dr Cuero have take the labor of promotion of science between Latin-American culture.[5]
Research
editCuero, as research scientist in the PVAMU(College of Agriculture and Human Sciences)and in a collaboration with David McKay(NASA), developed a natural blocking agent for ultra-violet radiation to prevent burn by exposition to the source. The principal objective of the research was to develop an agent to support life in Mars. It is claim that the discover can revolutionize the prevention and treatment of skin cancer.
Polemic
edit24 of October of 2013 El Espectador Newspaper publish articles challenging the reputation of Dr. Cuero.[6] The polemic was over the number of articles that he claim of his authority. In the next days the Colombian government support Dr. Cuero.[7]
