I am a mathematician from the UK. I think that Wikipedia is an excellent tool:
- for mathematicians it acts as a reference guide for the whole of mathematics, having it to hand effective grants us a light understanding of the whole of mathematics; and
- for outreach to the general public we have the opportunity to explain what we do.
My pet peeves are
- people adding their own recent work to Wikipedia;
- equations without context or explanation; and
- broken links in citations.
Oh and the treatment of young mathematicians, in particular those with family commitments, both in the UK and round the globe.
