Tafadzwa Makara

Tafadzwa Makara[1] (born September 11, 1994, in Ndanga[2], Zaka[3], Masvingo Province[4] at St Antony Musiso Hospital[5] ) is a Zimbabwean sustainability professional and policy thinker on governance and African affairs.

Early life and education

Tafadzwa[1] was born in September 1994 in Ndanga[6] in Zaka District[7], Masvingo Province[8] in Zimbabwe. His mother was a domestic worker who died in 2004. He was raised by his mother’s sister. Due to financial challenges during his seven years of primary school, he attended five different schools. He attended Gaba Primary School in Chiredzi, Magudu Primary School in Njajena, Mwembe Primary School in Mberengwa[9], Chombhobho Primary School located in a resettlement area in Mberengwa[10], and finally, two times, Mnene Primary School[11][12] in Mberengwa[13], first from 2003 to 2004 and then from 2006 to 2007. He attended Mnene High School[14] in 2008, then moved to Tynwald High School[15] in Westlea in Harare[16] from 2008 to 2009. He later moved to Makumbe High School[17] in Buhera[18], where he completed his secondary school from 2009 to 2013

In August 2014, Tafadzwa Makara embarked on a journey of higher education, enrolling at Great Zimbabwe University[19] for a Bachelor of Science Honours (BSc Hons) Degree in Social Ecology[20]. This decision was not just a step towards a degree, but a testament to his unwavering passion and aspiration for a better future. His commitment to personal growth and his chosen field is a shining example of his determination and dedication.

He was later awarded a VLIR-UOS scholarship[21] to study for a Master of Science in Sustainable Territorial Development[22] at KU Leuven in Belgium[23]. He was also awarded an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Scholarship to study an Erasmus Mundus Joint master’s degree (EMJMD) in European Interdisciplinary Master African Studies[24] [25] [26](Pass with Distinction) from the University of Bayreuth[27], in Germany, University of Porto[28] in Portugal and Bordeaux Montaigne University[29], in France. He is currently a PhD Candidate in Global Governance and  Human Security[30] [31]at the University of Massachusetts Boston[32] in Boston in United States of America.
