The 1848 Zhanghua Earthquake was an earthquake estimated at magnitude 7.2 which occurred on February 12, 1848 in Zhanghua County, Taiwan. It was at the time the deadliest earthquake in recorded history in Taiwan, claiming 1,030 lives. It remains the fourth-worst earthquake in Taiwan in terms of lives lost.
