Vasili Arkhipov is my group's choice for writing and research.

I will be providing historical relevance to our addition by using the book The Mitrokhin archive II by Christopher Andrew which is available in the UA library.

My addition to this article

The context of the time around Arkhipov’s time, especially during the reign of the soviet union. What sort of people didn’t want him to vote no, who else was in the room, what swayed his decision, and overall the effect it had on history.

New Section - "Influence by the Pope"

Two days before Arkhipov stopped the nuke from being launched, at noon on October 25th, 1962, Pope John went on television and appealed to both Russia and the United States. In his appeal he said positively that ‘all men of state’ work to avoid war and make peace for humanity. Hours after his appeal, numerous ships bound for Cuba from the Soviet union reversed their path and headed back.

Three days later on October 28th, 1962, Krushchev agreed to withdraw the missiles from Cuba.

In November, Pope John was diagnosed with cancer, but this did not stop him from publishing “Pacem in Terris” on April 11, 1963. In the journal, he writes on the goodness of man prioritizing man before other needs.
