About Me

edit

I am an artist and a huge nerd above all. I enjoy engaging in many forms of art. These include digital art, theater, and music. I love to post my art online and I've been singing in choir since 4th grade. I'm the happiest when I am engrossed in great stories and their characters, whether it comes from literature, movies, shows, video games, or even DnD podcasts. Simply, I would describe myself as an ambivert. Ambiverts like being social, but some alone time is crucial to recharge.[1] Currently, I am a student that is trying to go into nursing.

My Wikipedia Interests

edit

If I'm active on Wikipedia, I will be reading up on topics like always, but editing articles to be up-to-date and unbiased seems like a fulfilling task. I admire how many people volunteer their time to contribute information. I am always looking at many of the Fandom wikis and I noticed that a few of them have not been updated for a long time. I'm positive that the skills I learn will be applicable to those sites as well.

Article Evaluation

edit

Having attended Kamiak High School for the past three years now, I decided to have a look at what information was available on Wikipedia. I was mainly curious about the school's history, as it was never taught to us. I visited the Kamiak High School page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: some information is incorrect and inaccessible, many facts are not cited with a reliable source, and the article is not up-to-date.

Inaccurate and Inaccessible

edit

Information that exists on the page is incorrect or inaccessible. The article states that Mariner High School, another high school in the district, opened on January 10th, 1971. When hovering over the Mariner link, it reveals a contradicting date. This is a critical detail that should line up across all pages because readers will be unsure of the correct date. Also, a cited article’s website requires registration to read its content. Sources should be easily available for all readers.

Citations

edit

Much of the content on the page does not have reliable citations. The article is not verifiable because of this. When the article describes some general information like the opening date, facilities, and why the school was built, no citations are provided. One citation that is provided is not so useful, since it leads to the district website instead of the school’s.

Outdated

edit

Unfortunately, the references that are present are not up-to-date. Details about athletics and extra-curricular activities provided at Kamiak need updating. At least one club is created or disbanded each year. It seems like this list was taken from a past student handbook from the 2017-18 school year.

Conclusion

edit

In all, I would say that this article is useful for the facts that won’t change year-to-year, like the opening date or location. Inconsistent facts are present. There are not enough reliable citations that are also up-to-date to get a good scope on the school. Readers would be better off with the regularly updated official Kamiak page for definitive information and news.
