The Polka Dotters is an American garage metal queer country act from Port Huron, Michigan formed in 2010 by frontman William Addison Rogers. Vocalist Tony Rogers and Guitarist/Drummer/Pianist/Bassist Austin "Goodies" Goodrich joined the group in late 2011.
Critical Reception
Despite frontman Rogers' homosexuality, The Polka Dotters offended the greater LGBT community with the release of their first single "Fat Pagan Ass" in 2011. The track first appeared on popular internet website Youtube.com The group has faced notorious criticism from avid fans and casual listeners alike due to their aggressive, over-bearing sound and offensive lyrical content.
Musical Style and Development
The Polka Dotters take most of their musical cues from heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio. Their unique lyrical content is based on personal vignettes of the band's friends and family and also the Westboro Baptist Church.
Controversy, Break-up, Reunion
The Polka Dotters briefly disbanded after frontman Rogers's addiction to popular recreational drug Xanax caused disagreements in the studio. Rogers's downward spiral reached its climax when he suffered from severe alcohol poisoning during a party at a friend's beach-side bungalow in Lexington, Michigan. After their quick hiatus, the band reformed in order to begin work on their second studio album "Salmon Salad With Dementia Patients" which was never finished. Rumors indicate that early demos from Salmon Salad are buried somewhere along the coast of Lake Huron.
