Conception and influences

edit

When conceiving Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer had a vague idea of it being the start of a trilogy, and knew the second film (to become The Dark Knight) would feature Batman facing the Joker.[1] Before Batman Begins was released, Goyer wrote a treatment for two sequels, which introduced the Joker and Harvey Dent.
