User:Benison/How to celebrate April 1 in Wikipedia?
This is an essay on the conduct policy. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article, nor is it one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints. |
This page in a nutshell: You can either celebrate April 1 in Wikipedia by either remaining numb and serious and encourage others to join the serious people, or just join the others having hearty smiles on their faces by playing some silly jokes. |
To celebrate means to engage in joyful activity in appreciation of an event. Of the many officially proclaimed unofficial holidays, April 1 seems to be the most perfect yet the worst day in Wikipedia.
Now, if you are here to take an advice from me that what exactly should you do on an April 1 in Wikipedia, I can suggest you some nice, good ideas which ought to be implemented carefully, lest you should be blocked forever in Wikipedia.
Sounds good and fine, come...
The Decision
edit"Don`t be afraid to take a big step when one is indicated.
You can`t cross a chasm in two small steps."
To begin with, you must choose whether you want to be serious or play a prank.
- Serious?
Well, though not all, some of you may select this option and swear that I will remain serious and will not play pranks and the like on Wikipedia and will discourage others from doing so by placing {{subst:uw-joke1}} on their talkpage. If yes, then take your heeds after reading this line as I have nothing more to say to you.
- Wanna make others smile?
This is for you. Continue reading below and you are welcome.
What not to do?
editFirst, be sure to understand things not to do.
- Do not violate Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, which can lead to you being blocked.
- Do not vandalize Wikipedia pages.
- Do not disrupt Wikipedia.
- Do not harass Wikipedia users.
- Don't be a jerk.
What to do?
editHere are minimal, yet good suggestions. Feel free to add your own ideas too.
- One of the classic and good old traditions of Wikipedia is to go on the April Fool's Main Page. There, the featured article, featured picture, OTD, DYK and even the news have good humor content in them. You can contribute to it at the respective places, subjected to certain guidelines.
- You can tag any article for deletion, subjected again to the aforesaid guidelines.
- You can participate in joke AfD, MfD, and RfAs. Just make sure you are not offending other contributors rather than making them laugh.
- You can write a wikifools log.. Write in it as much as you can.
- You can edit Jimbo Wales' user page, because Jimbo said so in his user page's editnotice.
- You can vandalize your own or your sockpuppet's userpage and say it was you.
- You can make a sock as long as it is clearly linked to your main account.
