Drasar Monumental (born 24 June 1976) is a Hip Hop DJ and producer. He became involved in Hip Hop naturally at a young age due to his close proximity to the mobile DJ unit Boogieland Express, of which his father was a member in the 1980s.
Music Career
editDrasar later went on to co-found the underground Hip Hop label Vendetta Vinyl, which he is still a part of. The label was created to preserve an aesthetic of hardcore hip hop that Drasar saw as lacking and diluted, due to the over commercialization of the art form over time.[1]
In addition to his work managing the label, Drasar Monumental has been an avid record collector and an active DJ and producer for many years.[2]
Good Morning Vietnam Series
editIn 2012 Drasar Monumental collaborated with underground emcee MF Grimm for an EP called Good Morning Vietnam EP, fully produced by Drasar Monumental. After positive fan and critical reception,[3] the duo returned to the studio to record a second album in the series,[4] Good Morning Vietnam 2: The Golden Triangle, released in 2013[5] to similar acclaim.[6] On November 25th, 2014 Drasar and Grimm released the third and final iteration of the series Good Morning Vietnam 3: The Phoenix Program.
Besides working with MF Grimm on the Good Morning Vietnam series, Drasar Monumental has produced songs for German Regime, amongst others, and has run a website dedicated to all things Hip Hop since 2006.[7]
Name
edit"Drasar" is an acronym for "dangerous rhymes assassinate suckers at random."
