Ali Sastroamidjojo (EYD: Ali Sastroamijoyo; 21 May 1903 – 13 March 1975), more colloquially referred to as Pak Ali,[1] was an Indonesian statesman and diplomat. He served in various positions during his career in government, most notably as prime minister of Indonesia from 1953 to 1955 and from 1956 to 1957. He also headed the Indonesian National Party (PNI) from 1960 to 1966. Prior to Indonesian independence, he was a prominent figure in the nationalist movement.
Born into an aristocratic family, Ali attended Leiden University, during which time he joined the Perhimpoenan Indonesia association. After graduating in 1927, he
