Article Evaluation

edit

I chose the article on well logging for the evaluation. The article can be found in the following link: Well_logging

1. Is everything in the article relevant to the article topic? Is there anything that distracted you?

Everything is relevant to the article topic. The history section was a little distracting as it contained some information that didn’t have many citations.

2. Is the article neutral? Are there any claims, or frames, that appear heavily biased toward a particular position?

The article is neutral and there doesn't appear to be any claims that are biased towards a particular position.

3. Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented, or underrepresented?

There are no viewpoints that are over or under represented.

4. Check a few citations. Do the links work? Does the source support the claims in the article?

The sources support the claims in the article however some of the links do not work. I was transferred to a database location that didn't have the article in question, I would have had to search for it. Some of the citations were last accessed 6 years ago.

5. Is each fact referenced with an appropriate, reliable reference? Where does the information come from? Are these neutral sources? If biased, is that bias noted?

Most of the scientific information does have appropriate references however a few citations were to a third party person that just compiles information. Most of the history section of well logging did not have any citations so some of the information can be viewed as skeptical.

6. Is any information out of date? Is anything missing that could be added?

Most of the article was written and edited in 2008 and 2012 but there have been several updates to the article, fixing a few errors.

7. Check out the Talk page of the article. What kinds of conversations, if any, are going on behind the scenes about how to represent this topic?

There was a lot of conversation about formatting the article and what topics are similar and should be merged together. Most of these conversations occurred 10 years ago with a newer suggestion about 4 years ago. There was a recent talk about modifying external links by a InternetArchiveBot which I wasn't sure what to make of.

8. How is the article rated? Is it a part of any WikiProjects?

The article is rated "start-class, mid-importance" and is a part of both the WikiProject Energy and WikiProject Geology.

9. How does the way Wikipedia discusses this topic differ from the way we've talked about it in class?

We have not yet discussed this topic in class.

I have edited the section for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) logging under the main well logging page and added a citation. See the link above. Thompegg (talk) 16:51, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
