I'm a chemistry major at Rice University in Houston, Texas, USA. I also study the hydrophobicity of biochars in the Carbon Sequestration Group at Rice under Caroline Masiello. I'm primarily interested in food and water ecology issues and would like to work in agroecology or hydrology in the future. I'm interested in the policy side as well as developing better techniques for farmers and city planners to use. After years of eating meat, I chose to become a vegetarian. I strive to make most of my food myself because it makes me happy to do so and I become more aware of the ingredients. I make my own bread, tofu, yogurt, and beer. I'm always trying to expand my knowledge of food and improve my access to raw food materials, which is surprisingly difficult in Houston. I'm interested in computers, especially in models, simulations and games. I do some hobby programming in C++ and Python, including Django. I practice zen meditation and have an interest in Mahayana Buddhism.
