I am French, from metropolitan France. I also spent several years in Austria, New York and Singapore.
I started browsing wikipedia as any encyclopedia user until the day I found I could contribute.
Though I am definitely no expert in anything, I try to intervene only when I feel some level of information is missing and hope more informed contributors will perfect or correct the article.
I have spent several years studying and working outside France, particularly in Singapore and South East Asia. This changed my life and I loved it.
That's why many of my contributions so far are about Singapore and South East Asia : as a foreigner I bring a different point of view. And just the same way I am using the English wikipedia to balance too "Frenchy" ideas.
My first contributions came in sept. 2004 (before I registered) about the neighborhood of Geylang in Singapore (I had an appartment there for several years) and is a perfect example of how I try to contribute. Many Singaporeans will only see Geylang as a red-light district, though there is so much more to be said. When I first checked the article was limited to the idea of prostitution, and I brought some additional level, though without much precision, hoping for further developments by others.
Before registration, I contributed in the same spirit to following articles :
- Bintan (edited as 80.170.1.43 and as 80.170.29.184, brought major development: created the history and current situaton sections)
- Batam (as 80.170.29.184)
- Riau Islands (edited as 80.170.29.184 : created the large historical section)
- Pulau Ubin (early developments as 83.177.137.217)
- Geylang (early historical and social developments as 213.101.253.73)
- Sijori Growth Triangle (created as 80.170.29.184)
- Cédric Klapisch - created. I don't know much about this director but there was no mention of him and I like his movies :-)
- Karimun (as 80.170.1.43)
and a few others articles I forgot.
nothing much so far, I hope I will have the opportunity to do more given I now have a login.
I found it extremely difficult to give balanced articles and try to intervene only when I really feel something is missing. About my beloved Singapore, a lot of article still need some additional depth and I am trying to get sources and information to contribute.
