Wikipedia:Administrator recall
This page is a soft redirect.
This Wikipedia page has been superseded by a global recall policy introduced almost 5 years after this one, and is retained primarily for historical reference. The new procedure is almost identical to this one. |

I am currently an administrator on the English Wikipedia.
On the German Wikipedia, all administrators can be "recalled" by the community. On the English Wikipedia, the process is entirely voluntary. I personally voluntarily agree to the following recall procedure.
If 25 voters in one month, or 50 voters in six months, add their vote to the list below, I have to start a request for adminship at WP:RFA or resign adminship within 30 days, or I will be desysopped by any bureaucrat. Resigning adminship caused by votes on this page is defined as "resigning under a cloud".
— see #Recall procedure below
Adminship is justified by community trust; the community needs to have a way of dealing with a loss of justification.
Linking to this page
editLinking to this page from any other page, even from a template like {{Centralized discussion}} or mass-notification on user talk pages, shall not void any future votes, even if the text explicitly asks the reader to add a vote to this page. The action may still be disruptive and lead to sanctions, but it should not have an effect on the functionality of this page.
Origin of the procedure
editThis is a rough translation of the German Wikipedia's recall criteria, taken from de:Wikipedia:Adminwiederwahl, revision 192612406. The procedure exists since 2009, with 227 recalls resulting in 46 voluntary resignations, 48 desysops for not starting an RfA, 55 failed RfAs and 78 successful RfAs.[p] Voting eligibility criteria are translated from :de:Wikipedia:Stimmberechtigung, revision 190062558. The text on this page is authoritative, the source is only provided for attribution and background information. Whether a later change in the source will lead to a change in the translation is my personal choice.
Eligibility to vote
editOne person, one vote. All of the following requirements must be met on the English Wikipedia at time of voting:
- The person has registered an account, and is using this account to vote.
- The account's first edit must have been made at least two months ago.
- The account must have made at least 200 edits in the article namespace, of which at least 50 must have a timestamp not older than 12 months.
Ineligibility to vote
editEven if the above criteria are met, meeting any of the following criteria on the English Wikipedia disqualifies a user from voting:
- Being blocked (from editing articles or this page) or banned (from editing articles, editing this page, or interacting with me)
- Having attempted to manipulate the process, e.g. by casting multiple votes, in the past
- Using a secondary account or sockpuppet to cast the vote. "(Mobile)" account votes, "public computer" account votes and secondary joke account votes are prohibited.
- Being a bot
Recall procedure
editThis page must not be edited by anyone except myself if I am not an administrator, or if my last request for adminship has been closed less than one year ago.
Votes that have been cast more than six months ago may be removed by any person including me. No user may vote more frequently than once every six months.
