About this account
editThis is the user account of the course Applied Psychology & Technology which is organized at Thomas More University College, Antwerp, Belgium. As a part of this course, bachelor students are organized into small groups with the assignment to develop a wiki containing structured and linked information on a topic relevant to the main themes of the course.
Academic year 2014-2015
editFor the academic year 2014-2015 the assignment was reassigned to the students, in the following paragraph they each present their topic and in the near future, their contributions will also be listed here (currently under construction).
Group 1: Virtual reality therapy
editWe chose to work on virtual reality therapy because we think it is a hot topic that’s constantly developing. Nowadays technology is everywhere, and accessible for almost everyone. Therefore we think it’s interesting to link this particular technological innovation to psychology and treatment.
Our team members are Lara Stroobants, Gulsah Aydin, Stan Houben, Nele Claes and Dilian Manolov
Group 2: Biofeedback and eating disorders
editWe chose to contribute to the Biofeedback (BFB) page, more specifically to write on BFB related to eating disorders. Research has been done on this subject, but not yet discussed on the Wikipedia page.
Our team members are Julie Brison (Belgian), Natasha Jorgensen (Danish), Nazli Deniz Sinor (Turkish) and Davinia Terrace (Belgian).
Group 3: Biofeedback and stress
editWe decided to focus on the benefits of mindfulness and biofeedback on stress. Both are known to improve mental and physical health, which is highly relevant as stress is nowadays highly common among people.
Our team members are Sylvie Thimmesch and Juliette Dedeur, both Belgian students.
Group 4: Eyeborg
editWe have chosen the Eyeborg because it is not just a technological tool within the psychological process, but also an extension of the human body which broadens our senses. Secondly, the existing page on Wikipedia is still very basic. This grants us the great opportunity to really contribute to the Wiki community.
Our team members are Stijn , Mathias , Sandra , and Safia .
Group 5: EEG and emotion
editWe are going to write about measuring emotions using EEG, because we are interested to gain additional insights of what happens in the brain when we experience certain emotions and how such technology my create opportunities to do so.
Our team members are Samantha Gómez Martínez, Miryam Belkadi, Tara Kerremans and Karolien Van Echelpoel.
Group 6: Violence in video games
editTo be added.
Group 7: Social isolation and gaming addiction
editWe have decided to choose the subject of social isolation and the link to gaming addiction.
Our team members are Dieter Loockx, Manon Bakker, Victor De Buyser and Laurence Vantomme
Group 8: Catfishing
editWe have chosen to focus on catfishing, a new urban term that is based on the MTV program 'Catfish'. A catfish is someone who pretends to be someone else on social media (like Facebook), particularly to have online romances.
Our team members are Jasper, Tessa, Shelsy and Niels.
Group 9: Influence of apps
editTechnology (like mobile applications) is playing a big part in daily life and will be bigger in the future and that is why it is important to know how it can affect us.
Our team members are Steven Geysen , Annelies Roothooft , Duncan D'hondt
Group 10: Deep brain stimulation
editWe chose deep brain stimulation because of the diverse ways to use this medical procedure. It can be used to treat (or make it easier to live with)very aggressive diseases such as Parkinsons, it can also be used to chronic pain episodes and even depressions, addiction, panic attacks, fear and anorexia nervosa.
As students in psychology we found it very interesting how it is used to treat depression, simulators could be placed in the area of the brain responsible for mood and enhance this area’s effect when a person is feeling good, or numb it down when the person is feeling bad.
Our team members are Johanna Van Der Want, Cristina Lopez Peyro, Leila Saad and Fabio Di Taranto.
