Tomas Perez-Acle

(Tomás O. Pérez Acle) I'm a Computational Biologist, born on September 9, 1970 in Santiago de Chile. Former Director of the Centre for Bioinformatics CBUC [1] since its formation in 2002, he is now affiliated to the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM)[2] at Universidad de Chile. At the CMM, Tomas is the Head of the Computational Biology Lab (DLab)[3].

Graduated as Biologist from the Universidad de Concepcion [4] (Chile), in 1992, I received my Ph. D. on Biotechnology in 2007 at the Universidad Andres Bello [5] (Chile).

My scientific interests are related with the use of High Performance Computing techniques to model complex biological phenomena.

Other scientific interests include Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics, Nanotechnology, Astronomy and Astrophysics and Chaos.

I’m a Rugby player (I’m currently playing at “Cóndores de Manquehue” number 4, second row) but I use to play volleyball for a long time (as middle blocker or central line).

I’m also Black Belt in Tae Kwon-do (WTF)[6], former student of Master Humberto Norambuena [7].

Philosophically speaking, I consider myself as a contructivist and secular person.
