Michael (Mick) Potter (Born in Leeds, Yorkshire) is an English Sound Designer. He started out by attaining a BA Honours degree in Creative Design at the ‘Central School of Art and Design’ in London where he was introduced to theatre sound. Committed to a career in theatre he began work as a sound operator on many of London’s West End musicals including Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS, SONG AND DANCE and STARLIGHT EXPRESS as well as LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS and MATADOR.

He has since worked extensively as a freelance sound designer in Europe in theatre, opera and numerous large scale commercial events as diverse as Purcell’s opera THE FAIRY QUEEN in Lisbon Coliseum, the musical BROADWAY in Dusseldorf, EMI’s 100th and Elton John’s 50th birthday celebrations. Recently he was associate sound designer on production of the LANCE BURTON SHOW and STARLIGHT EXPRESS in Las Vegas which both broke new ground in sound using the very latest technology.

Mick made his West End debut as sound designer on the world premiere of the musical SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER at the London Palladium and in 1999 was sound designer of both the German and Broadway productions of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER as well as the NEW MAGIC OF THE MUSICALS and DICK WHITTINGTON LONDONS MUSICAL directed by Gillian Lynne at Sadlers Wells. He also mixed and produced Marti Webb’s concert CD THE LOVE SONGS OF GERSHWIN.

In 2000 Mick has designed BLACK GOES WITH EVERYTHING a new musical directed by Arlene Phillips based on the lyrics of Don Black and LAST OF THE MOHICANS a major new musical opening in Canada. He is delighted to again be involved in SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER with both the UK and USA touring productions of the show this year.

Mick was also sound supervisor for the London production of STARLIGHT EXPRESS.

Recently Mick was involved with the designing for Andrew Lloyd Webbers Maria, which recently toured the UK and the Canadian version.

Recent Sound Designs include the world premieres of Saturday Night Fever - London and New York and ten productions worldwide, Black Goes With Everything - London, Starlight Express - Las Vegas, US and UK Tours, Tell me On A Sunday - London, Scrooge The Musical - London, UK and US Tours, Jesus Christ Superstar - London, the world premieres of Bombay Dreams and The Woman In White both in London and New York, Hair - London, Whistle Down The Wind - London, Phantom of the Opera - in Las Vegas, New York and London, Ich War Noch Neimals - In New York and Hamburg, Evita - London and current hit productions of Zorro The Musical - London, Der Schuh des Manitu Berlin,The Sound Of Music - London and Toronto and Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - London.

Awards include 2005 Olivier Award in the UK for Best Sound Design for the London Production of The Woman In White and the 2006 Parnelli Award in the USA for Sound Designer Of The Year for Phantom Of The Opera in Las Vegas.
