Trimet has used a variety of paint schemes since it first began operation in 1969. many different colors and patterns have been used. While Trimet has had 4 main paint schemes, there have also been special paint schemes as well.

Main Paint Schemes

edit

Phase 1

edit

The agency's first paint scheme, adopted in April 1970, featured a tangerine (or orange) base with silver (unpainted metal) along the middle portion of the lower half and a white stripe below and above the windows. The windshield also had a white outline around it. The white above the windows curved upward to the roof at the first door, leaving the bus's front section all orange at the roof. This paint scheme was painted on all buses that from 1970 to 1979.

Phase 2

edit

TriMet's second paint scheme, which was adopted in August 1980, features a white base with a three-color stripe below the windows. The stripe colors are (in order from top to bottom) burgundy, red and orange, and near the front on each side the stripe makes a sharp bend and angles upward to the roof (except on MAX cars). The logo of TriMet, which at that time was still using the hyphenated spelling Tri-Met, was shown on the front driver's side(on buses) and on some units, the front just below the windshield. This paint scheme was painted on all vehicles from 1980 to 2001 making it the longest lived paint scheme in Trimet's history, lasting over 20 years. The last buses in this paint scheme were around until 2020, while some MAX cars are still in this paint scheme(as of 2023).

Phase 3

edit

TriMet's third paint scheme, of white with blue and "buttery" yellow, was adopted in August 2002. It features a white base with a large blue semi-circle at the top, curving downward, and a smaller pale yellow semi-circle at the bottom, curving upward. This was the first paint scheme to use the current logo. This paint scheme was painted on all vehicles from 2002 to 2017. As of 2023, this is the most common paint scheme, with the vast majority of buses and trains painted in this scheme.

Phase 4

edit

TriMet's current standard paint scheme was introduced in early 2019. It is all-over blue with three orange vertical, and slightly angled, lines in the rear portion on each side, with the middle line being thicker than the two outer lines. Buses in this paint scheme ultimately replaced the last phase 2 painted buses. Some older vehicles have also been repainted into phase 4 including some 3000 series buses, MAX type 2/3s 215 and 315, and several type 4. Additionally, several type 2 and 3 trains have been given phase 4 wraps, which are not as permanent as repainting.

Paint Scheme Variants

edit

FX phase 4

edit

All FX buses are painted in a green and blue variant of phase 4, with green as the main color and blue for the stripes.

Budd RDC phase 3

edit

A variant of phase 3 was painted on Trimet's Budd RDCs. The paint scheme only coverers the non-corrugated steel areas of the train. The blue appears as a thin stripe above the window rows, the white covers the window rows, and the yellow is excluded completely. The front of the RDCs are painted in a blue and yellow diagonal tiger stripe pattern(but this feature already existed when the RDCs were owned by Alaska Railroad).

Special Paint Schemes

edit

All electric Wind powered Bus

edit

Only used on Trimet's 3800 New Flyer XE40 buses, This special paint scheme features an all blue base with several light blue wave lines that all lead to a wind turbine design toward the front.

50 Year Phase 1 Wrap

edit

in 2019, bus 3135 was wrapped in a special 50th anniversary paint scheme that was meant to look like a vintage New Look bus.

Art Buses

edit

3 buses were painted in an artistic paint scheme and know as culture buses. The only buses that were painted in this scheme were a Flxible Metro1701, 600, and a Flxibe New Look.

Cultural Leader Buses

edit

A number of buses were given wraps that celebrate cultural minority leaders.

Non Revenue vehicles

edit

All of Trimet's non revenue vehicles use an all white paint scheme with Trimet logos on the sides.

Logos and other Applications
