I learned that Wikipedia can be used by anyone. Anyone can access Wikipedia as well as edit a particular reading. It is important to ensure proper information when editing someone else's work. We have to remember to act in a professional, respectable manner when others disagree with our information. When editing the Dona Ana Community College information, my thoughts were that I wanted to correct every mistake I saw. I realized that although it is possible for just anyone to post it is important that we review our work before finalizing what it is we are about to post. --Trinityo12 (talk) 04:20, 18 January 2014 (UTC)Trinityo12
What I learned is that according to Wikipedia, plagiarism is using someone else's words, thoughts or ideas as one's own. It can be considered dirty work and is also known as theft. One main thing to remember about plagiarism is to know exactly what it is. As a student/writers, it is important to remember to always properly use citations when needed. We also need to remember that even if we are paraphrasing or summarizing a citation is still needed. It is important to give the credit where it is due, like all crimes, there are consequences for plagiarizing. I learned that closing paragraphs also require inline citations. It is important to remember the copy right law, because the use of someone else's work without proper citation can cause serious harm to others. Under copy right violations, I learned that if we suspect someone is in violation, we have to bring it to the users attention. If they are in violation, that further steps should be taken. We also have to remember that there are false alarms of violations, therefore we need to ensure that we are examining information well.
As far as using the tabs, not all tabs appeared on my page, however after reading the assigned readings I have learned a bit of information on each. All tabs have to do with the controlling the information posted. As far as in the talk tab, we can read any information on what people have thought about the information if any. Under edit this page, I learned that we can edit the information, however it is important that the information we are providing is correct and cited to inform readers where the information was obtained. With history and watch, we can keep track of changes that have been made if any,and the move tab is to be able to move a Wikipedia page. I found all the tabs to be very helpful, I especially like the history tab because it shows how current the information is. Trinityo12 (talk) 06:14, 22 January 2014 (UTC)Trinityo12
Wikipedia articles to edit or create
editWhat I practiced
editI practiced using different tabs and different links that are found on the article page. I found the history tab to be very helpful because it provides short explanations of changes that have been made to the document. I practiced using the table of contents to the different articles in which I read. When reviewing the tabs I was not able to find the move tab on any of the articles, however I did review the history tab, the talk, the edit and the watch. One thing that I really got out of using wikipedia is that even if you are searching one specific topic, you can access plenty of information by clicking on external links.
What I read
edit- Las Cruces, New Mexico
- Doña Ana County, New Mexico
- Pima Community College
- New Mexico State University
- Thomas Branigan Memorial Library
What I am thinking
editBy far, looking over and reading different articles has been quite interesting. I personally have not decided on a specific topic I would like to edit or create however I am considering something that may have to do with heart, such as congestive heart failure. With it being something that I have to live with the rest of my life, it is something I would like to learn more about and edit or create a page on.

Why use sources?
editI learned that it is important to use sources, so that our readers can be able to locate the information provided. If the source doesn't have sources or the correct sources, than the information will not be creditable. It is important to identify if the source is a primary or a secondary, because we need to ensure that the information we are reading/using is creditable when comparing to other websites. From my understanding, one way of finding out that source is creditable is by reviewing the references for the information provided. Creditable sources are important for Wikipedia sites so people are able to use the information without having to second check the work.
The following Mat Hoffman Action Sports Park entry is an example that I mostly copied from Oklahoma City. The example is for this course. I added some additional information without references for now.
Mat Hoffman Action Sports Park
editOklahoma City has a skate park named after Mat Hoffman - a famous BMX rider[1]. The skate park is now Mat Hoffman Action Sports Park and allows skateboards, bmx bikes, scooters, and roller blades. It was named in a National Geographic Travel guide as one of the 10 best in 2009.[2][3]

Edit or create
edit- Chaparral, New Mexico As far as education, what programs are offered in Chaparral?
- Santa Fe is New Mexico's Capitol and has amazing sites for tourist to attend including recreational activities such as the Sandia-Casino which is on the side of Santa Fe.
- Anthony, New Mexico is a border city between TX and NM.
- El Paso Public Library servers the needs of its community, the best ways possible.
- El Paso, Texas is known for some of the most beautiful historical sites such as the Socorro Mission.
- White Sands, New Mexico is considered to be in the desert however it sounds like a enjoyable place to visit.
Most Favored Today
editBy far the page I am most interested in is El Paso, Texas. The reason being is because there is so much information regarding the city in which I believe I can look into. El Paso has a lot of history within its city which I believe I can add more information on by using or conducting research. I have no really had the chance to look up to many cites to obtain or look at information but if I were to commit myself to this topic than I will definitely consider reviewing several talk pages.
Next Most Favored
editTo me, the next most favored topic of interest would be El Paso Public Library. Upon reviewing different topics, today I decided to look up a review the El Paso Public library. I have taken several Library Science classes in which they have required me to do research on libraries and actually attend the El Paso Library to see what its purpose is and so forth. With this being said, I have gained a interest in libraries and if I would have the chance to add, etc. to the El Paso Public library upon reviewing the page, than I would gladly be interested in doing so.
Topic entries I have considered
edit- Chaparral, New Mexico
- Santa Fe, New Mexico
- Anthony, New Mexico
- El Paso Public Library
- El Paso, Texas
- White Sands, New Mexico
I decided not to uses any of these pages because I do would want to ensure that I am editing a page that does need editing and has verifiable information through other sources. I don't feel to confident with the choices I made and am aware that I have to be careful with what I do decide. In order to complete my assignment in a timely manner, I would feel more confident having an assigned page to me so I can be able to provide the necessary information.
Talk Pages
editThe pages I was considered in did not have any information in the talk pages. The only page that consisted information was El Paso, Texaswhich demonstrated edits that have been done to the page. I found all the pages interesting however not enough information was provided to edit or create.
Recommendations
editThis class overall has been a great experience. Having you decide whys recommendations has been s difficult choice to make being that I found this class to meet fist expectations. The first recommendation I have would be to make this class a full semester class. Being that this course is a mini semester, I found that 2 assignments due a week can be intending. Whereas if this class were to be a entire semester, there would be one assignment due a week.
The next recommendation I would make is to not offer extra credit to students. Being that we are able to gain extra points by turning our assignments in on time, I don't feel that it is necessary for extra credit to be available. Although some student may feel they need the extra points, I believe extra credit in your course should not be offered.
One last recommendation I would consider is having a discussion due. With a discussion due, students can share their experiences with each other and can ask each other for assistance if something may be default for them. I personally a, greatly for the assistance from my instructor however it is also nice to get feedback from other students because they may be experiencing the same difficulties.
