Gib defeated McBroom via 4th-round Knockout.[3] |
Austin McBroom vs. AnEsonGib, billed as No More Talk, was a professional crossover boxing match contested between American and British YouTubers, AnEsonGib and Austin McBroom. The bout was on September 10, 2022, at Banc of California Stadium, Los Angeles, USA.
Background
editOn February 3, 2018, British YouTubers KSI and Joe Weller took part in an amateur boxing event at Copper Box Arena, London, England. On the undercard of the event, AnEsonGib made his amateur boxing debut in a 2nd-round TKO victory over fellow YouTuber, MaxPlays. Gib went on to defeat Jay Swingler later that year in his second appearance before losing to Jake Paul on January 30, 2020, in his professional debut.
On June 12, 2021, Austin McBroom made his boxing debut in a 3rd-round TKO victory against TikToker Bryce Hall on the first event ran by his new promotion company, Social Gloves, billed as YouTubers vs. TikTokers.[4] Gib appeared on the undercard of the event, in his first fight since his loss to Paul. On the night, the fight was announced to be a majority draw with the scorecards being 49-46, 49-46, and 50-46. This is simply impossible as a majority draw requires that two of the judges deem the bout to be a draw, which none did in this case. Two days after the event, the decision was overturned and Gib was retroactively awarded the win via unanimous decision.[5]
It was announced on June 7, 2022, that Social Glove's second event would see Austin McBroom take on AnEsonGib as the headline on July 30, 2022. However, just ten days before the fight was scheduled to take place, Gib found out that he was being refused a professional boxing license in LA until more medical tests had been performed.[6] All parties involved announced on their respective social media's that they were not going to cancel the bout and were instead looking to postpone it, and on August 15, 2022, it was confirmed that the fight was rescheduled for September 10.[7]
Card
editIn the days following the announcement of the event, the rest of the card was revealed to be Nick Young vs. Blueface,[8] Landon McBroom vs. Adam Saleh,[9] LeVeon Bell vs. Adrian Peterson, [10] and Cody Wharton vs. Chase DeMoor.[11]
In the run-up to the event amid controversy due to a video from TMZ[12] appearing to show Blueface in an altercation with his girlfriend which saw the rapper taken off the undercard of another boxing event, MF & DAZN: X Series 001,[13] Blueface was removed from the Social Gloves event. However, they stated that this was due to him not being granted a boxing license by the California State Athletic Commission and unrelated to the controversy.[14] He was eventually replaced by Malcolm Minikon.[15]
