Mission Mountain Wood Band new article content ... Mission Mountain Wood Band, sometimes shortened to M2WB is an American Bluegrass and Country Rock band formed in Missoula, Montana in 1971. [1]

Origins

The Band was formed when Rob Quist and Steve Riddle met as members of the University of Montana’s Jubileers singing group. They soon recruited Terry Robinson and performed as an acoustic three-piece before fleshing out the lineup with guitarist Christian Johnson and Drummer Greg Reichenberg.

Career

During their Heyday in the 1970’s they frequently played over 250 shows a year in every state in the union except Hawaii, which was inaccessible to their greyhound Scenic Cruiser Bus. They also developed a reputation for their complex use of vocal harmonies and extended jams. They became an annual mainstay of the Aber Day Keggar in Missoula Montana; which was added to the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest Keg party of all time.

In 1973 the band relocated to New York City and played the legendary club CBGB’s and built a national following through relentless touring. Their performance at the Hell’s Angels National Boat Party in New York with The Grateful Dead and Bo Diddley was filmed and released as “Angels Forever.” In 1977 the band released their debut album “In Without Knockin” and their tune “Take a Whiff on Me,” became an underground party anthem across the country for years. They became an in demand live act and shared the stage with The Allman Brothers, Charlie Daniels Band, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Dolly Parton, and many more. They appeared on National Television first on the show Heehaw and later on the Cheryl Ladd Special.

The band finally broke up after a ten year run in 1982 and members Rob Quist, Terry Robinson, and Kurt Bergeron formed the Montana Band. Rob Quist left the band after a few years for a highly successful solo career. Terry Robinson and Kurt Bergeron along with manager Tom Zawan the remaining members of the Montana Band were tragically killed in a plane crash near Flathead Lake, Montana in 1987.

Reunion

In 1992 the surviving members of M2WB reunited for a wildly popular concert in Polson MT. Several more successful concert tours followed and in 2008 they released their entire recorded output in a box set entitled “Private Stash.” In 2010 Montana PBS made an award-winning documentary about the group called “Never Long Gone.” The band announced they were set to release a brand new studio album called “Reboot” in 2011 with a tour planned in support.
