The Battle of Curupayty (also spelled Curupaiti esp. in Brazilian sources) was a battle in the Paraguayan War that took place on 22 September 1866 between the armies of the Triple Alliance (Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay) and Paraguay. It resulted in the allies' major defeat of the war. Their demoralised forces required a complete reorganisation and it paralysed their advance for 10 months.
Probably the allies should have won for they had hit upon a weak spot in the Paraguayan defences. But their command was divided .
