The Friction is a professional cover band from the Phillipines, that has long been the resident band in the "Luna" restaurant/bar Xin Tian Di area of Shanghai, China (Shanghai's main Ex-pat hangout), where they consistently draw large crowds. They normally play from 21:30 to 01:30 each night (except Sunday). As such they are one of the top performance bands playing in the Shanghai region, indeed China overall

The band features two female vocalists, both with very powerful and distinctly different voices, three Guitarists (notably Andrew on lead / Solo's, Abbe on bass, and a third Guitarist-cum-vocalist), and a keyboard player. The drummer (who is also the band leader) is from Italy.

The Friction play a broad range of music ranging from 50's rock and roll classics through to recent and even a few classic Chinese songs (notably "Shanghai Nights", due to the location) music, but the bulk of the repertoire is moderately heavy rock from the 1970's through 1990's, notably such as Santana, Pink Floyd, Gary Moore etc songs featuring guitar solo's, alternated with songs with heavy vocal lines from the girls, ranging from AC/DC to Tina Turner

Some of the performance highlights include the drummers seemingly discrete but endless stick twirling, and Andrews sometimes Hendrikesque solo performances (playing with his teeth behind his head, on fire etc, including an occasional double act where he and Abbe cross arms and play each others Guitars, usually introduced as "double A battery"
