Granite City Steel ... Granite City Steel is a branch of U.S. Steel. Granite City Steel was established in 1878, and continues to be a leading supplier of high-quality hot and cold- rolled steel, as well as coated sheet steel products. These products are fabricated for customers in the construction, container, piping and tubing, and automotive industries. Location Granite City Steel is located just outside St.Louis in the heart of Granite City Illinois. The main office is located at 1951 State Street in downtown Granite City. Production Facilities Granite City Steel is equipped with two blast furnaces, two top-blown basic oxygen process vessels, a ladle metallurgy facility, two continuous slab casters, an 80" Hot strip mill, 51" Pickle Line, a 56" 4-Stand cold reduction mill, a 46" and 49" Hot-dip galvanizing line, as well as two coke batteries that can produce up to 500,000 tons. Unions With in Granite City Steel the steelworkers are represented by two unions. The first is the United Steel Workers Union Local 1899. The union is Local 1899, because 1899 is when the first steelworkers union was established at Granite City Steel. The second union that represents the steelworkers at Granite City Steel is IBEW, or the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 309. IBEW local 309 only represents the steelworkers who are electricians.[1]
