RADIOLOGY Is one of the essential branches of modern medicine that use various technological techniques to screen, diagnose, treat and follow-up of patients. Radiology begun its primitive life in form of discovery of electromagnetic ionizing radiations, x-rays by Roentgen. X-rays have been the basis of conventional radiography, Fluoroscopy, mammography and computerized Tomography(CT).

Radiology has of recent expanded beyond the limits of X-ray based techniques in form of Magnetic resonance Imaging and Ultrasonography. The former utilizes Magnetic properties of hydrogen in our bodies while the later uses high frequency acoustic sound waves to form cross-sectional images of the internal organs of the body.

Radiology is one of the disciplines of medicine that have been key towards realizing evidence based patient care. Radiology ability to demonstrate internal body anatomy has made surgical operations more predictable and pre planned for better outcomes. Negative laparotomies have significantly reduced in these days through the good work in radiology.

Radiology is wide discipline that calls for specialized training of personnel in form of radiographers, sonographers, and radiologists. It is a discipline that calls for adequate resources, which explains why most of developing countries like Uganda have not yet realized the fullness of usefulness of the radiology in its medical care system.

This page will be an educational resource about the radiology accomplishments, gaps and future aspects of radiology work in Uganda. It will provide both information suitable for both technical people in radiology, medical personnel in other fields and the lay persons.
