Background
editIn 1994, the American composer John Corigliano suggested that WNYC begin a program of commissioning music as part of the celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary of its FM station.[1] The works by Gould, Glass, and Anderson were originally performed at the 50th Anniversary concert.[2]
Release
editIt was released on compact disc in December 2002.[1] Because artists and composers had contracts with other record labels, this album was not sold commercially; rather it was given to people who donated.[2]
Reception
editDavid Moore's 2003 review for American Record Guide called it "an interesting program with considerable variety of idiom" and said "This is fine music well performed. You should hear it."[3]
