Sadotherapy is a form of releasing emotional pain through expressed physical pain. Sadotherapy is used to resolve emotional traumas by entering back into the trauma through physical pain, processing the trigger and/or event, then resurfacing into a safe, loving space. Sadotherapy is a consensual, non-sexual practice that provides willing participants a way to heal their traumas through an unorthodox approach to recovering repressed pain. While controversial, this therapy is highly sought after by willing clients. The term and practice was coined by professional domme Rachel DomX whose practice is out of Portland, Oregon.
