I am the public affairs officer for the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Having carefully read the Wikipedia policy regarding conflicts of interest, I want to clearly state that I am not a paid advocate. By U.S. law, public affairs can only release accurate public information. Truthful accuracy is our standard … not “spin.”
I am establishing this account to have an active voice in a very important community of information providers. Many Wikipedia pages already reference public affairs releases as verification of accurate information. My goal is to make factually accurate edits in a transparent manner on articles concerning the U.S. Pacific Fleet and its people. Correcting factual errors in a timely manner is important. Given Wikipedia’s popularity, uncorrected errors can have serious consequences.
I welcome close scrutiny and feedback by the Wikipedia community on edits from this account. I am confident edits will be fully acceptable to the community because they will improve our collective goal of factual accuracy.
