Sri Lanka Reconciliation Forum Sydney

Sri Lanka Reconciliation Forum Sydney is one of only two knowm initiatives coming from within the Sri Lankan diaspora, following the end of the civil war which took the lives of more than 60,000 people, to to support post-conflict peace building and future conflict prevention in Sri Lanka, . The Forum first met in June 2009, at a time when tensions within the Sri Lankan diaspora communities were at their highest, at times marked by violent encounters between Tamils and Sinhalese communities in places such as Australia. The group started in a low key manner, meeting in private houses in Sydney, mainly to discuss issues and share people’s experiences of political violence in Sri Lanka. It continued meeting in an informal way, until it got itself formally incorporated in New South Wales in early 2011.

The The Reconciliation Forum (as it is commonly known) has now significantly expanded its range of activities. These now includes social events, seminars, talks and fund raisers.

The Forum fiercely defends its independence, and has engaged in some dialogue with both the Sri Lankan and Australian Governments.
