Platband
editPlatband ( rus «Наличник» [1]) is an ornamental element of a window or a door aperture. It looks like laid on figured shaped slats. Platbands are often made of wood and decorated with carving. It may seem to bear only a decorative function but there's also a practical importance of a platband - it covers up a chink between the wall and door or window case.
Materials used for producing platbands
Platbands are divided by the type of materials they are made of. They can be:
- wooden (made of wood with the help of a form milling cutter or with putting carving patterns);
- of composites - laminated veneer or plywood
- plastic (made of extruded PVC and polyurethane; using polystyrene is rare);
- metal - steel or aluminic.
Platbands shapes
Modern platbands produced as moulded strips can be also divided by their shapes:
- flat
- rounded
- figured
Platbands mount methods:
- laid on
- telescopic.
The difference between these two methods consists in so-called 'wings' (or a 'beak') the telescopic one has. This beak is a projection located athwart to the platband surface; it goes into the suitable slot of a case. Moving the platband in or out of the slot you can regulate it in proper way - to cover the case and the platband joint fully with different thickness of walls.
