The TNA World Beer Drinking Championship was an unofficial, unsanctioned championship in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. It was used as a storyline in a feud between "Cowboy" James Storm and "Showtime" Eric Young over who was the better drinker.

Design

edit

TNA Management bought a toy WWE Championship spinner belt, attached plastic beer bottles to the WWE logos, and painted the belt red to make the World Beer Drinking Championship belt. It was designed to be a mockery of WWE's spinner belt.

History

edit

James Storm introduced the Beer Drinking championship to TNA at Genesis 2007 in a drinking contest featuring him versus Eric Young as a way to convince Young that he could not beat Storm in a drinking contest. Eric beat Storm, and took the championship out of the room, repeatedly saying "I'm the champion!" In subsequent weeks, Storm tried to reclaim the "championship" in drinking contests, including a one-minute drinking sprint (whoever drinks the most bottles of beer in 60 seconds wins), but was unsuccessful in every attempt. At Final Resolution 2008, Storm faced Young in the "DCS" (Drinking Championship Series), a best of three drinking contest, which he won due to cheating. As the winner, Storm got to name the stipulation for their match at Against All Odds the next month, and he chose that it would be for the drinking championship. He was unsuccessful due to Rhino interfering. Finally, Storm was able to reclaim the belt in a ladder match on the February 28, 2008 episode of TNA iMPACT!, but only momentarily, as Rhino stole the belt and destroyed it the next episode.
