editHey Sn0wflake, great to see someone appreciating the work I've done. :D Yeah, some of the metal music sections are very sparse at the moment so I'm definitely looking to add some stuff to them. Midness 15:25, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

editWhy did you revert the spacing I did for the Opeth albums? If three of them have dashes between the album title and the year, why not all of them?

User E tac
editUser:E tac seems to enjoy vandalizing wikipedia articles, especially Slayer, Symphony X and Megadeth, but some others too. I've warned him in his talk page but it seems it wasn't enough. Should he be banned? I haven't found the place where to report users for this behavior, so I thought about posting it here since you're an admin and have reverted at least one of his vandalisms... You can reply me here since I have put this page on my watchlist Rbarreira 13:27, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply on my talk page, I hope your action towards the user works :) Sorry about the "heated" message I left on his talk page, I mainly did it because I couldn't find the page where to report vandals (thanks for telling me that too) and he was starting to seriously piss me off. Regards - Rbarreira 01:03, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
Well, it seems that your warning wasn't enough, he's still vandalizing wikipedia pages... Regards - Rbarreira 12:49, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

In RE: "Warning"
editRemoved your message from my discussion page, as it made no sense, is self-contradictory, and meaningless. If "civil discussion" is your modus operandi, why did you revert my edit on the Tiamat band page to your version, which was rife with spelling and grammar errors, as well as factual inaccuracies (without bringing it to the discussion board first)? Le noir faineant
editHmmm... it would probably be a surprise to an innocent reader if they find themselves redirected to Richard I with no explanation. I'll add the pseudonym to the Ivanhoe reference in the article, although that's still not immediately obvious (see the project's instructions). That's not much better than the original stub. What do you think? David Brooks 04:01, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, it would probably be better as a redirect to Ivanhoe. But hardly worth bothering with either way. David Brooks 05:22, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
Archive Indexer
editHey! Just wanted to show you the C++ program I did over the weekend. It takes a formatted archive (in this case Categories for Delete) and transforms it via regexs into indices sorted alphabetically and chronologically. - Alphabetical: Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Archive_debates/2005_July_index

Speedy deletion reminder
editI agree with your argument that directly converted PNGs of JPEG originals are useless. Not because they look worse (they look exactly the same), but because they take more space.Sometimes, however, you want to use a graphic that would have been perfect for PNG, but all you have access to is a JPEG version. Some editors then clean up the JPEG artifacts and store the result as PNG, which may well look better and use less space than the source JPEG. In those cases, you do want to keep the PNG. editI hope I am not out of line in adding a self-protective forward to this mini-discussion. My birth name is Steve Espinola and I edit on Wikipedia under the name Sojambi Pinola. In 2005 an internet troll deliberately picked my birth name when he vandalized hundreds of wikipedia pages. Unfortunately, when my name is googled, Wikipedia complaints about this fake "Steve Espinola" still come up, and I still hear about it as a result. So...for the record....the real Steve Espinola didn't commit the crimes. Sojambi Pinola (talk) 00:00, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for correcting falacious and slanderous vandalism to my talk page. I honestly do not know what to do about Steve espinola :-/ All I did was revert several hundred of his vandalisms to the cleanup process about a month ago and now he's just outright attacking me. Is there a way to limit him — only — from editing my page or is this not possible in the site's current implementation? — HopeSeekr of xMule (Talk) 16:27, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
- I just realized that you apparently blocked him for 48 hours. THIS IS NOT ENOUGH!! This guy has been vandalising every thing willmcw, myself, and a handful of others have edited for about a month. He has been banned for a week prior, and all of his known (9 last time I counted) sockpuppets were deleted. I simply do not believe 48 hours is enough and he has shown time and again that after administrative punitive actiosn his behavior further degrades, becoming more juvenille and sinister. That said, I don't know what can be done short of blocking an entire IP range, but he seems so fanatical that even that would just unleash a killer (I hope he lives in another country :O — 16:41, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
- FYI, I had previously placed an indefinite block on Steve espinola (talk · contribs) and Steve Espinola (talk · contribs) on account of being abusive and fraudulent sock puppets of Jonah Ayers (talk · contribs). (Fraudulent because a different editor involved in his topic is named Steve Espinola IRL). I left Jonah Ayers unblocked because that was the least-misleading of his active accounts. The editor's newest account is Walter L. Newton (talk · contribs). This editor really needs to use only one account, and it should be one that isn't misleading. In any case, I'd appreciate another admin's involvement or perspective. Cheers, -Willmcw 09:55, September 7, 2005 (UTC)

editYour reversal caused a circular redirect. Clicking on Recital (music) just redirected back to Recital. Don't worry though, I reverted back to my last edit. Planescape : Torment
editHi. I couldn't help noticing that you reverted my comment to Planescape: Torment saying that fan reactions to the novelization of the game have been heavily negative. The trouble is that they have, and that my phrasing was a very mild way of putting it. You can see why; in the game, it's vitally important and a large plot pointthat the Nameless One remains that way. If he eventually does learn his real name (that's never revealed to the player) it's in a very poignant scene towards the very end that essentially boosts him to demigod levels. In the book, his companions dub him "Thane" by the end of the third chapter.
You're hunting for vandalism, that's cool, but if take two doesn't cut it either I'd appreciate knowing why.

editHi Sn0wflake, you deleted the entry on MailScanner with the comment 'Notability not established.' I just wanted to let you know that mailscasnner is widely used (Protecting over 5 billion e-mails every week) and actively developed which is fairly obvious if you visit the projects home page: http://www.sng.ecs.soton.ac.uk/mailscanner/ The main authour of the software Julian Field actually won the the UK's Unix & Open Systems User Group 2004 Award for MailScanner (see: http://www.ukuug.org/pr/osa2004-winner.html). Perhaps you will consider undeleting the article? i would like to contribute to it. Thanks Htaccess 00:05, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

El Blockage
editIn my defence, can you really expect someone to lie back and take it when 3 hours of work are destroyed by someone who might as well be a vandal. They have not bothered to look at the history of the situation, they have done even bothered to defend their decison. It is even more infuriating when, afterwards, they decide that they were wrong in the first place.
It is not a "mistake", it is stupidity and idiocy. The wiktionay defintion of both words is exactly correct. There is no point, in my eyes, dressing that up. Deano 13:10, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your support on my request for adminship.
The final outcome was (96/2/0), so I am now an administrator. If you ever have any queries about my actions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Again, thanks! Most stub category pages function quite well without having to use a line for every other related stub, and while I can see the need for some text, the text is getting rather long here, which is why I tried shortening it somewhat. Let me explain the method behind my madness so that I can hopefully get you to agree.
- The direct child categories all show up on the first page anyway, and if kept in the category text will need three more lines added for the three new child types: {{bowed-musician-stub}}, {{brass-musician-stub}}, and {{woodwind-musician-stub}}. I have added a line of text to indicate that one should use one or more of these subtypes, as appropriate.
- The children of {{band-stub}} don't really need to be mentioned here, so long as we make people aware that it has children. While it would be more convienient if people stub bands directly, dedicated stub sorters should be aware of that, and the undedicated ones probably won;t read the notice anyway. Furthermore, from what I've seen from by stub sotr of Musician stubs today, very few band stubs get misfiled here in the first place.
- {{Overpopulated category}} is a redirect to {{Verylarge}}, so all I did there was cut out the middleman.
- For categories with lists of people {{CatAZ}} is generally considered preferable to {{CategoryTOC}}.
To repeat, the text there is getting too long and if the same parameters are followed as before, will continue to grow even longer. It needs trimming and I think my trim is reasonable. Caerwine 06:15, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

Slipknot protection
editSaw your comments on the recent update/reupdate/rereupdate... of the Slipknot page. While I'm more partial to the "alternative" tag, I agree with you that we're reaching the point where the article could do with protecting. It's not just the genre-altering. It seems that the band/page attract an awful lot of opinions and as a result it's probably the most-frequently defaced page I check regularly. IainP (talk) 17:42, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
Banzo
editYes, I know. Never heard of it before, so I opened a diccionary. The discription seemed different from Saudade. And, it is not related to the Portuguese Culture, so it is "off-topic".
If you read the description, and the article, you'll see that these are different things. It s interresting, as we all know very few of what these people went through... but it is unrelated. Saudade is not destructive or apatic (commonly, as a feeling everyone has different ways to express it). -Pedro 12:13, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
-Pedro 15:09, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

Although I do realise that it is up to one's personal opinion if a band sounds like DragonForce, many listeners do indeed search for months, if not years, to find similar bands. I have experienced this frustrating search myself and as such I wish to share my knowledge with others, and those others WILL be looking on Wikipedia for similar bands. I thought I could perhaps create a new topic; something like "Bands similar to DragonForce" - the similarities within would be based upon close relation to genre which is NOT of opinion but is a question of genre. Besides the fact I searched for a long time to compile such a list, the fans of DragonForce need something like this to widen their musical horizons. Please let me know your thoughts on ways to include this information. Thanks. soulhunter123
Please do not use/abuse your sysop privilages is order to war with me over an article - U mass reverted (without explanation) so I reverted it back - max rspct 20:59, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
You know what I mean - U made threats blah blah -max rspct 21:04, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
I think you should check your own civility - calling edits idiotic etc
How can you accuse me of being uncivil and threatened me with a block. You wrote on my talkpage "Making idiotic assumptions is bad,.."
Yet you blocked User:Djr xi for saying this:
"Is "Place of origin" an acceptable compromise for the various putative idiots and non-idiots involved?"
I don't really see there is much difference/I think your being rather hypocrytical. You seem to be blocking folk that you disagree with over an article. - max rspct 15:50, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
Please listen to yourself and may I remind you : Wikipedia:No personal attacks -max rspct 21:12, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Re: DragonForce
editThanks for your reply! I have added a paragraph on the DragonForce talk page which states:
I have, after being advised by Sn0wflake, removed my previous submissions about "Similar Bands" and instead have given informaton on Dragonforce's own self-glorifying genre, "Extreme Power Metal". This does seem to abide by NPOV rules as it is factual. Also the "Evolution of Sound" section was subject to vandalism, but as it stands currently, it is quite factual. If we cannot use even the slightest bit of description in articles then there won't be much information to go on Wikipedia! For example, saying they create a bombastic sound, as it states, is in my eyes acceptable as it is factual since Dragonforce are hardly melancholic. I do realise the rules of NPOV, however, and should this debate be carried on then so be it! However please do not outrightly revert the page as many small re-phrasing of sentences have been done by me to give the article a higher standard of English (eg. the image caption.) Thanks! --Soulhunter123, 13 December 2005
