This article explores the benefits of job sharing within the community in South Africa. Since society is transitioning into a fast-paced era with technology taking over every aspect of our lives and with the harsh reality of increased work expectations and long hours as becoming the new normal everywhere it makes balancing work and a family incredibly difficult. Job sharing has been introduced to create a new permanent wellbeing for citizens which is either two or more employees sharing a single job. On April 2016 Solidarity, a South African trade union created a plan to focus on the issue of worker’s rights and so far the results of job-sharing have been phenomenal. The advantages on job-sharing are as followed: “The most obvious advantage is being able to work part-time in order to spend more time with loved ones, the ability to study further and pursue other personal interests, new mothers can continue with their careers, all the while taking care of their children, and they will not be required to put them in full-time day care. Employees can pursue more than one career path at the same time; senior workers can cut back on their taxing jobs while still continuing their careers and job sharing also eases up on the work-related stress and burnout which employees often experience.” Ultimately if job-sharing can maintain the goals and expectations from the job then it will benefit employees and their employer and significantly increase productivity. This article will be useful to my work because it will explain how job sharing is being explored in different countries to adjust to the demands of work and home life.
Weinreb, Ellen. "How Job Sharing May Be The Secret To Work-Life Balance." Forbes. Forbes Magazine, 24 Oct. 2011. Web. 25 Oct. 2016
Job-sharing here is defined and broken down as a step-by-step guide about the relationship between your partner and the ultimate benefits of job sharing. Ultimately in the US people are skeptical to take a chance in job sharing because of the relationship that needs to be formed with the partner you’re going to have and whether it ultimately comes together cohesively or not. To make the arrangement work there needs to be hard work and loyalty as well as hyper-productive. There’s also the fear that one partner may quit to fulfill their time to their family and the realization that job-sharing isn’t completely permanent and at the end of the day one partner may just want to take a different route in their career. Job sharing is just taking a leap of faith and could help balancing work and family but it will not last forever. This article will benefit my project by showing a simple step-by-step guide in case anyone is curious as to how job sharing works.
Smith, M. Hildick, Martin P, and Lesly Rees. "Job Sharing." Job Sharing (1987): 282-83. US National Library of Medicine National Institute of Health. Mar. 1991. Web. 25 Oct. 2016.
This article takes a step back on job sharing and shares the aspect of it since it began in the 80’s and in the medical field such as “post-registration hospital grades, general practice, nursing, and management. Since jobs in the medical field are expected to be full time and even overtime as well as around the clock attention job sharing makes a logical sense that two or more people are trained for the same job making a personal and work life possible. Just as other job-sharing concepts have been thought of and created there is a contract that is administered between the two employees with working and holiday pay shared evenly and every other minor detail listed on their contract such as insurance and retirement plan is shared evenly. Job sharing is said here to be the wave of the future in the medical and consulting field and to think this was already being done in London Hospitals in the 80’s. Jobs haring has not only increased even more with the help of the technological advances society has made in the last 30 years. This article will also benefit the history aspect of my project, as it will show that job sharing has been tested out since the early 80’s and even before that and the times it has been tested it has been successful.
"Eurofound." Job Sharing. European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, 15 June 2015. Web. 28 Oct. 2016.
This article explores job sharing in central Europe briefly in places such as Czech Republic and Poland and how it has emerged from small companies and it also expands on what job sharing is and how it benefits not only an individual but also the company in the end. This article will benefit my project because it has another perspective on job sharing in Europe and it expands on how people define it. The same definition of job sharing can be repeated but everyone has their own way of interpreting making it easier to understand and comprehend.
Grady, John. "Officials: E.U. and U.S. Need to Do Better Job Sharing Terrorism Intelligence - USNI News." USNI News. USNI News, 29 Aug. 2016. Web. 28 Oct. 2016.
This article takes job-sharing to a whole new level with the aspect of sharing terrorism intelligence with the U.S. and other different countries. From time to time the U.S. has had some common enemies with other European nations and the share of terrorism would benefit both countries immensely but after years and years of efforts Europe and the U.S. cannot come to an agreement since it is such a sensitive issue. This article will benefit my project because it will explore an entire side of the spectrum of job sharing, which is also a sensitive topic: terrorism. It is something that is ongoing and will give great insight on what is going on with terrorism internationally.
Article evaluation
editJob Sharing may have been appropriate way to have jobs that weren’t as important as they are today. Jobs sharing it set to be ideal for people who care to have more time for themselves or their families or for people who have issues with their quality of life that will not allow them to handle a part-time and much less a full-time job. What this article lacks is a more in-depth of information from the transition of opinions of jab sharing from the 1970’s until today and as far as the category of jobs that are not considered to be job sharing aside from librarians or banking. What there needs to be is also a new definition for what job sharing is, I believe the entire article should be scrapped and should be completely redesigned to fit to what modern day society and businesses consider job sharing to be as well as links to studies that have been made world-wide to prove that job sharing is possible and could even prove it improves morale in the work-place as well as overall happiness. Also what should be included is the level of communication job-sharing has and should be improved since these types of jobs are considered a handoff and aren’t really communicated to who it was originally, so the level of communication within the job sharing community needs to be improved especially in an individualistic society that we live in today. The origin and definition is the most important part and should be expanded to more than just a paragraph.

Workplace Mentoring Peer Review
The article expands on the way mentoring works within companies and provides an edicational aspect for prospective employees or interns. I like the way there is a sub-section of the four different examples there are in workplace mentoring and the differences between formal mentoring and informal menotring. I do appreciate that there is a pro and cons side but thre are a few key things missing that I wish I wouldve seen. I would like to see examples of which major companies use it such as Verizon or Whataburger or any other major corporation. I would like to see who uses the mentoring and how they apply it to their corporation. Overall the Workplace Mentoring article is well done just needs more relevance and expanding of definitions.
