Movies and Television in Computer Science

Did you know that computer science impacts movies in several different ways?  Well most people know that we use computers to edit movies and tv shows, but we use computers for a lot more than just editing.

Computers can add special effects to scenes in movies like “Advengers (levy 2007). Computer Science also creates animated movies like Fantastic Mr. Fox. They use digital art to create the animations. They create digital art and form into an amazing background. The backgrounds in animated movies were once hard to make out what they were, but as the people change it a little bit each day and eventually it becomes a pretty background like the forest in Brave.

With the click of a mouse modern editors can cut movie scenes thanks to computer science.  According to Computer Science Degree Hub the editors also “use professional-grade editing programs such as Vegas Pro, Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro, and Adobe Premiere Pro to piece together every scene in a movie”. Computer science professionals are the ones that create the editing programs for editors to use, stated Computer Science Degree Hub.

When coders code an animated movie it tells the characters what to say or the trees to move. Coding is also how they add words to the screen. “With a little code, I added sounds to the soundboard, so that when I click on each animal button, the corresponding animal sound can be heard”, Stated Jana Doughty.

“Most modern films are done in 3D computer-generated animation.”, Explaned Computer Science Degree Hub. 3D computer-generated animation is the process used for digitally generating animated images. They use it for live action movies stated Itstillworks.com.

The film indestresy has changed alot in the past couple decades due to Computer Science (Rosenpublishing.com). Have you ever watched an older movie? For example Star Wars was made in 1977, the graphis for that time seemed pretty incredible. But when you watch the newer Star Wars movies that have been made in the last decade, the graphics are amazing.  So much better than what they were in the beginning thanks to computer science.  In Star Wars Rogue One, they were able to computer generate a deceased actor to keep his character in the storyline (Itzkoff 2016) . It was pretty fun to watch that part of the movie and see how realistic they were able to create the character.

Programmers take such a long time to create the programs needed to create movies. They Program Editing platforms, and are very good at what they do.  Programmers take advantage of CS and attach key elements to the movie. This makes movies more exciting. Programmers have to have tons of school to become what they are today. They need a least 4 years of college, but more if they want to become more advanced in programming, or get a higher paying job.

Coding is the lifeline of computer animation. Coding is how they create the movies and add the voices from the voice actors. It makes the movies exciting and not a movie that no one wants to watch even though they spent millions of dollars on it. Coding adds so much to the movie and makes them really exciting.

Computer science creates an amazing background from green screens to the words on the screen that tells you location, time, date, etc. I challenge you to watch your favorite movie and think about the computer science that was put into it to create the incredible movie it is today. It's fun to watch older movies and compare them to movies that have been made in the past few years and see how Computer Science has advanced since then.
