Why your page will be a valuable contribution

Our goal is to raise awareness on an important sustainability project that the City of Vancouver is doing in its neighbourhoods and how it could benefit citizens. Vancouver is known internationally as a leader in developing bikeways and greenways, which is in part because of its push for cycling and public transportation infrastructure. We think that a page about Vancouver’s large greenways network will be of value and notable because of that.

Describe ways you’ve checked that this page/section is needed (Talk page, topics searched for, other?)

Searched for “Vancouver greenway network” and couldn’t find anything. We only found one specific Wikipedia page for the Central Valley Greenway, but nothing else on the other ones, and no cohesive page that describes the importance/notability of Vancouver’s greenway network. There isn't even a main page on cycling in Vancouver; there is a page called "Transportation in Vancouver" and cycling infrastructure is a sub-heading on that page.

Background information

This section will contain some background information on Vancouver’s plans to build a 140 km long greenway for pedestrians and cyclists. It will include details about the network’s part in Vancouver’s Greenest City Action Plan, and the history of the greenways plan by Vancouver City Council starting in 1995. 1.1 Arbutus

Construction is underway for this corridor, which was originally a rail corridor operated by Canadian Pacific Railway. We will include some information about the controversy and news surrounding the efforts to convert this corridor from rail to a greenway. The project is in its initial phase of "Visioning". The phases are: Temporary Path Visioning Conceptual Design Preliminary Design Detailed Design Construction

1.2 Central Valley

The 25 km route extends from Vancouver to New Westminster through Burnaby. We are planning to incorporate the existing article Central Valley Greenway into this page, and create a redirect link on that page, once we are done.

1.3 Comox-Helmcken

The Comox-Helmcken Greenway was first approved by City Council as part of its 2002 Downtown Transportation Plan, and Section 1 of 2 is now complete. Section 1 travels from Stanley Park to Hornby Street in the neighbourhood of West End, while Section 2 will extend to the False Creek Seawall. We will include some more details about the notable sites and attractions that this route passes by.

1.4 North Arm Trail

The North Arm Trail runs east-west, mainly along 59th Ave, in the southern part of the city. This trail is partially complete. We will also include some details about the parks and schools that this trail passes by.

1.5 North False Creek Seawall

Constructions will be made along the Seawall on the north side of False Creek between the Burrard and Granville bridges. More details about this route will be added.

1.6 Seaside Greenway Completion and York Bikeway

The goal of this project is a 28 km walking and cycling route that begins at the Vancouver Convention Centre and ends at Spanish Banks Park. More details about this route will be added.

1.7 Ridgeway

The Ridgeway greenway runs from west to east across the city. It starts at Pacific Spirit Park, and continues to the city’s boundary with Burnaby, where it ends at Central Park. More details about this route will be added.

1.8 South False Creek Seawall

The greenway along the seawall of False Creek is the oldest and one of the most popular greenways in the network. More details about this route will be added.
