Cover Me is a reality television series that has been broadcast under various names in a number of European countries. The original format was broadcast on TROS, (Televisie Radio Omroep Stichting) which is part of the Netherlands Public Broadcasting. Originally called Ali B op volle toeren (meaning "Ali B at full speed"), it has been applied in local shows under various names in various countries.
After its launch in the Netherlands in January 2011, and a format that proved very popular, many European countries launched their own series, including Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Ukraine and Switzerland. In addition, a Tuvalu producer launched a truly international variant called Cover Me in which artists from different countries came together to cover each others' hits.
German series starting in 2012 called Sing My Song. In the autumn of 2012, the a Flemish version, named In De Mix (literally In the mix) was launched with Brahim Attaeb (or simply Brahim) as host.
Format
editEach season would typically be made up of 6 to 8 episodes and be hosted by a famous performer that has openness to all genres of music. In each of the episodes, the host/presenter, would couple two fellow artists, one from the traditional pop tradition and another from urban / hip hop tradition. These artists would change from one episode to the next.
The guest artists in each typical episode would choose from the repertoire of each other a well-known hit, for the purpose of making a "remake" / or cover version of the song and vice versa. Partaking artists are encouraged to use their own style giving the hits a real new twist. At the end of each episode, the artists get together with the host to perform the new interpretations, with many times the host participating in parts of the renditions. The artists would exchange opinions about the new revived versions.
