"Every single shot with Gene Hackman was shot by Richard Donner. Donner didn't receive his share of credit." Stop Superman II to finish Superman I. David Denby felt Lester was a better director because Luthor was funnier. Manky sent a letter, told him he respected Lester, but all Hackman stuff was shot by Donner. The letter was never published.[1]

December 1978: "Coming Next Summer: Superman II". Donner shot around 80%. Fired and replaced by Guy Hamilton. Hamilton's departure in late-1976 gave Donner the director's position in early-1977. "The Salkinds and Spengler replaced me with he original director," Donner commented in 1980. "Whose material I had to radically change to make the picture you have seen." Then came Richard Lester.[2]

Dana Gillespie auditioned for Ursa.[3]
