David Wright was a circuit rider in the Methodist Episcopal Church.

Wright was born in Fifth town, Upper Canada. His mother was a Methodist, who often housed itinerant preachers. He was also raised by his uncle, who lived in Ameliasburgh. During the War of 1812, he served with the Upper Canada militia.[1] After the war, he worked as a school teacher in Fourth town.[2]

In 1820, he was a local preacher on the Cornwall circuit.[1] In 1821, he was assigned to the Belleville circuit.[3] He remained on the Belleville circuit in 1822. Membership in the Methodist church increased from 160 to 186 that year.[4] In 1823, he was assigned to the Hallowell circuit, where he rode alongside Philander Smith.[5]
