John Hamilton was a Methodist circuit rider.

Hamilton was recieved on trial in 1813, and sent to the Lyons Circuit. This was followed with an appointment to the Lebanon Circuit in 1814, where he was again assigned in 1815. In 1816, Hamilton's trial period ended, and he was ordained an elder. Hamilton volunteered for an assignment in the Canadas, and was sent to the Westminster Circuit on the north shore of Lake Erie. However, after a single tour around the circuit, he left, and did not return.[1] In 1817, he was re-assigned to the Clarence circuit in New York, and in 1818 to the Crooked Lake circuit. In 1820, he was located.[2]
