History
editAround 1995, the SmarTeam product was introduced in an early form to the Engineering market by its owner, Smart Solutions Ltd. of Kfar Saba, Israel. This was very primitive, and initially only worked with basic file management. Its first CAD integration was with SolidWorks, then its own company as well. This integration included an embedded menu within SolidWorks, as well as functionality incorporated throughout the product. Complex relationships between CAD files were stored and managed by the software throughout the versions of the files as Designers changed them.
Version 4.0, introduced around 1998, incorporated multi-CAD integrations with CATIA, AutoCAD, AutoDesk Inventor, Microstation, and some others. SmartWeb 3.0 was also introduced as a salable product, which provided a web interface for users to log in and manage and consume data from the central database.
In July 2000, Smart Solutions Ltd., a subsidiary of Dassault Systemes changed its name to SmarTeam Corporation on a worldwide basis, creating a global umbrella for the company and its regional subsidiaries. In June, 2001, Dassault Systemes and IBM announced that IBM will sell the SmarTeam product suite as part of its worldwide PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) portfolio. In keeping with this, the versioning was changed to conform to the Dassault suite of software to V5R10 (for Version 5 Release 10), the first major release after Version 4. SmartWeb was redeveloped as a more modern and capable product, called SmarTeam Web Editor, with a read-only license called SmarTeam Web Navigator. Also at this time, Smart Multisite was introduced as a publicly salable product, that provided replicated site capability for a common Oracle database and vault files for companies who wanted to share engineering data across multiple physically geographically dispersed locations.
In May 2006, the SmarTeam brand (previously spelled SMARTEAM, with all capital letters) became the ENOVIA SmarTeam product line, part of the ENOVIA brand. On November 6, 2007, Dassault Systemes announced that ENOVIA SmarTeam had reached its 5000 customer mark. The corporate name, SmarTeam Corporation became registered as Dassault Systèmes Israel, Ltd. in 2007.
Located in Kfar Saba, Dassault Systèmes Israel has more than 200 employees, most of them responsible for ENOVIA SmarTeam, the mid-market product line within the ENOVIA PLM brand portfolio of Dassault Systèmes.
On Nov 2009 Dassault Systèmes announced that it is subcontracting the development and support of its ENOVIA SmarTeam V5 technology to artizone[1].
