I am a 27 year old straight edge punk. I am a free market anarchist. I am a musician, philosopher, economist, and proud capitalist. I ascribe to no religion, but I have a Bachelors degree in Religious Studies from Southern Adventist University. I have completed approximately 90% of a Bachelors degree in Computer Systems Administration.
The Wikipedia entry for Straight Edge subculture is incorrect in neglecting abstaining from promiscuity as a core value. I am here to petition correct information.
"Breaking edge by drinking alcohol or having casual sex can be taken very personally."[1]
"Developed in the immediate wake of the sexual revolution, the early straight-edge creed was against promiscuity--just another self-destructive force blindly accepted by the masses."[2]
"[Straight Edge] requires abstinence from alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs and casual sex..."[3]
"And what is this lifestyle? It's one which shuns the use and abuse of drugs, alcohol and promiscuous sex."[4]
"Those who joined the Straight Edge "scene" to denounce alcohol, drugs and promiscuous sex see their reputations for being good, clean kids changing into prideful, intolerant monsters."[5]
"Abstaining from alcohol, tobacco, drugs and sex..."[6]
"sXe is the only youth counter-culture to actively discourage drug use, alcohol use, and casual sex." [7]
