German destroyers and torpedo boats of WWI
editGerman destroyers and torpedo boats at the outbreak of the First World War were those vessels developed to offset the numerical advantage in capital ships held by Germany's rivals, particularly the Royal Navy. German vessels of this type were classed throughout as torpedo boats, although the later, larger ocean-going vessels equated to destroyers in other navies, and were referred to as such by their crews.
