Shah's Syndrome Shah's syndrome is characterised by a preoccupation with being healthy or hypochondria while simultaneously engaging in extremist practices that are detrimental to health in the long term. These practices can be dietary or lifestyle modifications. They may include veganism accompanied by excessive use of supplements to meet the micronutrient requirements that the individual believes are necessary to be met, and enrolling oneself in a physical exercise program without adequate post-exercise nutrition. Examples of these programs may include weighted resistance training, self-defense training or cross-fit. Symptoms typically include an aversion to meats, resulting in an inability to consume them, or vomiting following the sporadic consumption of such meats. The individual may also become prone to hair loss as a result of inadequate intake of proteins of high biological value. The most significant behavioural manifestations involve the advocation of nutrition knowledge which at times may be aggressively carried out. The individual, however, is able to lead a normal life.
