The Journal of the Faculty of Medicine Baghdad (JFMB) is a peer-reviewed international journal published by the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad[2].
Receive and issue different clinical medical disciplines, basic biomedical sciences , and public health. The journal aims to provide a home for all adequately conducted medical research to be fully reported, following a rigorous and transparent peer review process.[3] .
History
editThe journal as a first medical and scientific journal in Iraq and in the Middle East. It is one of the pioneer medical journals in the It was first published in 1936 and continued so far despite some poses for compelling reasons[4].
In 1935 Sir Dr. Harry C Sinderson Pasha established The Journal of the Faculty of Medicine, Baghdad, Iraq (later The first issue of this Journal was published under the name of (Journal of the Royal Iraqi Medical College) called The Journal of the Faculty of Medicine, Baghdad).in April /1936[5], approved by the council of the College as a general journal dealing with the news of the college and a few scientific articles to encourage the teaching staff for research publication. The journal was published randomly and ceased during World War II due to financial difficulties[6].
In 1946, Prof. Dr. Hashim Al Witri, the college dean, assigned the republication of the journal and urged the teaching staff to participate and publish their research. Despite his efforts, the journal remained irregular in publication. In 1959, Prof. Dr. Faisal Al-Sabih became the editor-chief of the journal when he returned from the United Kingdom and was appointed to the teaching staff, restructured the journal and changed its name to (The Journal of the Faculty of Medicine) and used a new scientific system for publication of articles.
The first issue of the new series started in June 1959. The journal continued to be published regularly without interruption (four issues during the year). The Journal registered with the International Number (ISSN) in 2000 and entered many important international indexes[7].
After 2003, the Journal continued despite the difficulties involved in every aspect of the country. By the beginning of 2004, the journal progressed through a series of changes to reach a level recognized internationally. After 2010, the journal was published electronically with the same edited issue[8].
The Journal an Open access Journal use System powered by PKP as a communication platform for researchers, physicians, and medical workers in different aspects of medicine and basic medical sciences worldwide[9]. The Journal accepts original articles, review articles, case reports, short communications, and Editorial in all fields relevant to medicine. The journal’s full text is available online.
Since 2005, it has transformed issuing the electronic journal, making it readable and legible worldwide, raising its importance and significance even more, making the editorial Board keener to publish the research in the best configuration, diminishing errors and applying solid scientific standards and work to be indexing in all recognized Citation index databases[10].
