A theozyme, short for 'theoretical enzyme' is a model used in computational biochemistry to predict the catalytic function of a specific enzyme active site architecture. These 'truncated enzyme models' are often more feasible to work with then whole-structure models, as they encompass the majority of catalytic information about an enzyme, while leaving out the structural features of an enzyme, which due to their complexity, can be computationally demanding to model. Though work with theozymes is relatively immature, they have already shown utility in modeling guidelines for enzyme activity. Other areas that theozymes may prove useful are the fields of drug discovery and enzyme engineering.
