Hi I'm in Riverton South Australia though I lived in Sydney from birth (1968) until Oct 2008 and in suburban Adelaide from Oct 2008 to June 2009. I've been around on the web since the early 1990's and have created many websites covering a wide range of IT and non-IT subjects. I have been a member of the Australian Public Access Network Association since 1993.
I am employed by Genesee and Wyoming Australia as a full-time locomotive driver, and have worked in rail transport since 1987. Most of that time was working in various positions for rail entities owned by the NSW government including as a trainee full-time locomotive driver for Freightrail in the early 1990's (absorbed into Pacific National around 2004) and as a suburban train driver for Cityrail from the late 1994 to mid 2007. I worked for Independent Railways of Australia as a casual locomotive driver from Sep 2007 to Jan 2008. Between 1996 and 2006 I also operated my own value-added reselling business called Sun Ripened Kernels which traded specifically in surplus and pre-loved Sun Microsystems and compatible equipment.
As part of my involvement with APANA I have set up, operated and maintained various servers (all on a volunteer basis) and provided adminstration and management support for the Sydney region of APANA. I have also been a volunteer firefighter and active member with the NSW Rural Fire Service since Oct 2001 until moving to SA in late 2008 (and will continue that role with the SA Country Fire Service).
My interests include Sun Microsystems and compatible hardware, various Unix operating systems, construction of electronic projects, building and operating HO scale model trains, techno/trance/rave music, photography, driving and maintaining Saab Classic 900 and 9000 cars, Australian native plants, photography, and more.
I have three children of my own (girl, girl and boy, born in 1998, 2001 and 2003 respectively) plus a step-son and I have been in a wonderful relationship with my (de-facto) wife since 1997.
