summary.py doesn't find all edits

Hi, with this query I was looking for a particular WP:SPLIT that I carried out in 2012. It found it; but only one half. The edit that was found was this one, but it didn't list this edit which was made just seconds earlier, and is the "other" half of the same split. Both edit summaries contain the string "split content", which is what I was looking for. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:53, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

It appears that the tool does not find edits that created new pages. Σσς(Sigma) 00:00, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

Admittedly not the most beautiful solution, but it would be trivial to make it follow the style used by MediaWiki, here. Which I will implement immediately. Σσς(Sigma) 22:55, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2014 February newsletter

And so ends the most competitive first round we have ever seen, with 38 points required to qualify for round 2. Last year, 19 points secured a place; before that, 11 (2012) or 8 (2011) were enough. This is both a blessing and a curse. While it shows the vigourous good health of the competition, it also means that we have already lost many worthy competitors. Our top three scorers were:

  1.   Godot13 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer whose high-quality scans of rare banknotes represent an unusual, interesting and valuable contribution to Wikipedia. Most of Godot's points this round have come from a large set of pictures used in Treasury Note (1890–91).
  2.   Adam Cuerden (submissions), a WikiCup veteran and a finalist last year, Adam is also a featured picture specialist, focusing on the restoration of historical images. This month's promotions have included a carefully restored set of artist William Russell Flint's work.
  3.   WikiRedactor (submissions), another WikiCup newcomer. WikiRedactor has claimed points for good article reviews and good articles relating to pop music, many of which were awarded bonus points. Articles include Sky Ferreira, Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus and "Wrecking Ball" (Miley Cyrus song).

Other competitors of note include:

After such a competitive first round, expect the second round to also be fiercely fought. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2, but please do not update your submission page until March (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! σbot glitch

Sum thing is wrong with the bot [1]? NE Ent 22:21, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

Six discussions were archived from that noticeboard page a mere three seconds earlier. I'm not a bot expert, but it appears the bot has a latency greater than three seconds between when it parses an article and when it saves changes. – voidxor (talk | contrib) 22:30, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
Considering the size of the noticeboards, I would agree that it met a race condition of a sort. Σσς(Sigma) 22:55, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

Missing line break?

Should Lowercase sigmabot be ending the {{pp-protected}} tag with a line break? Here is an example edit where it did not. My concern is that human editors may mistakenly remove maintenance tags when removing the {{pp-protected}} tag. – voidxor (talk | contrib) 22:24, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

Human editors should pay closer attention to which templates they're removing. Σσς(Sigma) 23:32, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
I'm not sure that response really satisfies me. Why not add a line break after the double close curly brace in the bot's engine? It seems like a harmless change that would improve readability. – voidxor (talk | contrib) 01:06, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
The lack of a line break, if I recall correctly, was a vestige from the days when the bot tagged templates. It has been done. Σσς(Sigma) 02:39, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Lowercase sigmabot III is ignoring me

Hi, I had the bot enabled for over a week ([2] to [3]) and never received a visit. Curiously, ClueBot has also been ignoring me. Does the presence of "----" or {{clear}} or something prevent archiving? Another possible source of bot confusion is the redirect from User:Vzaak to User talk:Vzaak. Troubleshooting this problem will be a lengthy process, so I'm hoping you will spot something. Best, vzaak 14:39, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Vzaak: In the first case, the first thing that I noticed was that you only had one thread on the page. You had set
{{User:MiszaBot/config
| algo = old(1d)
| archive = User talk:Vzaak/Archive %(counter)d
| counter = 1
| maxarchivesize = 200K
| archiveheader       = {{talk archive navigation}}
| minthreadstoarchive = 1
}}
which does not have a |minthreadsleft= parameter; in the absence of that, lowercase sigmabot III will ignore the page until there are six or more threads; it will then archive off sufficient to leave five behind. If you want it to completely clear off all threads, you need to set |minthreadsleft=0. I'm not familiar with ClueBot III's parameters but I expect that it has similar rules. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:08, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
Redrose64, that looks like the fix, thank you very much. I saw the documentation, but I somehow lost the distinction between minthreadstoarchive and minthreadsleft. Don't you hate it when people report a problem without reading the documentation carefully? vzaak 15:54, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Debug hints for the bots

I sure wish User:MiszaBot/Archive HowTo has some hints on how to debug the bot. Today I'm trying to see why it won't archive Talk:Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 but there have been other pages where it took a lot of work to figure out why archiving was not working.

For example, I'd want to know:

  • How often does lcΣB3 check a page?
  • Is there a flag that could tickle lcΣB3 into leaving some evidence that it checked a page and perhaps explaining why it did not archive anything when it visited?

--Marc Kupper|talk 23:58, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) lcΣB3 appears to have archived the page about 7 minutes after you posted this. — Makyen (talk) 02:43, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

Thank you. I reviewed Special:Contributions/Lowercase sigmabot III for the past seven days. It has normally been starting at 00:00 each day and has finished between 01:53 to 02:05 each day. There was a recent exception in that it failed to start 18 March 2014 00:00. Someone must have noticed and started it manually at 18 March 2014 23:35. As it was catching up on two days of work that run did not complete until 19 March 2014 02:45. --Marc Kupper|talk 18:14, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

Lowercase sigmabot using {{r protected}} for less-than-full protection?

It seems that Lowercase sigmabot is putting {{r protected}} on redirects that were fully protected but later had the protection lowered to semi. For example, see Hanging, drawing and quartering and Windows 3.1. Is this a mistake (specifically, a design limitation relating to the bot's lack of admin rights), or is there a good reason for it? (I noticed that {{r protected}} is currently a redirect to {{r fully protected}}; perhaps that was not originally a separate template from {{r semi-protected}})? --SoledadKabocha (talk) 00:28, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

In this edit, along with correctly removing the expired pp-vandalism template, Lowercase sigmabot also removed the pp-move-indef template, which still applied and should have been left. Do you know why this happened? Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:14, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

Superfluous line-breaks after bot removed pp-… templates

Hi there, I noticed that a bot had removed two templates here. Unfortunately it left the line-breaks there, and this resulted in two superfluous line-breaks appearing at the beginning of the article.
